Market Type
Alabama is regulated by the Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission (AMCC) Alabama only allows the sale of medical cannabis to registered qualifying patients.
Metrc & Inventory
Alabama has selected METRC as their state traceability system. In Alabama, patient allotments are tracked directly within the seed-to-sale system. All inventory actions and sales must be reported in real time.
Product Forms
Per §20-2A-33, Alabama enumerates the allowable medical cannabis forms:
- Oral tablet, capsule, or tincture
- Gelatinous cube, gelatinous rectangular cuboid, or lozenge
- Gel, oil, cream, or other topical preparation
- Suppository
- Transdermal patch
- Nebulizer, or liquid or oil for an inhaler
Purchase Limits
- A 60 day supply of cannabis, or
- A number of doses equal to the number of days since the patient’s last purchase, or
- An amount as recommended by a registered physician.
Days Supply may vary by patient, however a standard supply is benchmarked at 50mg. With physician approval after 90 days of continuous care, a day’s supply may be increased to 75mg per day. Terminally ill patients may be prescribed more than 75mg per day.
Taxes
Medical cannabis sales are subject to a 9% gross proceeds tax.
